Tottenham Hotspur fans in the Transfer Tavern will be concerned with the latest news coming out of the club regarding the future of one of the key figures at the club.
Manager Mauricio Pochettino is wanted by the locals in the bar to stay on at the North London club for the foreseeable future, having taken Spurs forward in recent times – however, they could be looking for a new manager soon.
And that’s because The Daily Mirror have revealed that the Argentine has thrown his future at the club into further doubt after refusing to confirm he will be in charge next season, which follow the comments he made after their defeat to Manchester United in the FA Cup semi-final.
When asked directly about what his future at the club entails, he instead decided to speak about Spurs remaining true to their current project instead.
He told The Daily Mirror: ‘After the disappointment of the result against Manchester United, I was very honest to tell you that we create a philosophy and a project for the long term and trying to be different to other clubs.
‘I wanted to say [with his post semi-final comments] that the club is not going to change. If I stay here for three years more, after three years the project will not change. The most important thing now is that the project we need to keep pushing.’
He was also asked about the time left on his current deal and felt that he had nothing to discuss about it, saying: ‘I still have three years contract here, so there’s no point to talk about that.’
Thus, these comments are unlikely to delight our resident Tottenham fans, as although Pochettino has yet to deliver a trophy since his move to Spurs back in 2014, there is little doubt that he has taken the club forward during his tenure at the North London outfit.
Landlord’s Verdict: The Spurs locals in the Tavern will be concerned that they could lose Pochettino in the summer, as he continues to refuse to talk about his contract and with interest in him continuing to build from other sides, they will be hoping they can keep him for as long as possible.
