Tottenham fans in the Tavern are still unhappy following the club’s 2-1 defeat at the hands of the Manchester United which knocked them out of the FA Cup.
Spurs now face a battle to finish in the top four of the Premier League and secure Champions League football for next season.
To add insult to injury, the future of Mousa Dembele remains highly uncertain with reports claiming the Belgian has asked for a new three-year deal as well as a pay increase to £100,000-per-week.
Chairman Daniel Levy is reportedly unwilling to meet the demands of the midfielder who turns 31 in just two months’ time. After spending eight years in England, Dembele could be ready for a new challenge in either Italy or China with the latter thought to be his most likely destination.
Dembele’s departure would leave a massive void in the Spurs midfield which would need to be filled in the summer.
High on the list of many clubs will be Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic who has enjoyed an excellent season in the Serie A. The Italian side are battling with Roma and Inter Milan for a Champions League place with Milinkovic-Savic at the heart of their best performances.
The 23-year-old has netted ten goals and four assists in the league so far as well as two goals and three assists in the Europa League which has seen his value shoot up to £61.1m according to Transfermarkt.
The Serbian is the perfect box-to-box midfielder, combing excellent attacking abilities with an intelligent defensive game. As well as winning more tackles per 90 minutes than Dembele, Milinkovic-Savic has also averaged more key passes and created more chances than the Belgian.
He wouldn’t come cheap but the midfielder could be one of the most significant signings of the summer and would be a real statement of intent from the Lilywhites.
Tottenham fans, would you be happy with Milinkovic-Savic to replace Mousa Dembele? Let us know
