Tottenham supporters have been fine voice in the Transfer Tavern in the last few days after seeing their side take a huge step towards another Premier League top four finish courtesy of a 2-1 win at struggling Stoke City on Saturday.
Mauricio Pochettino’s men went into their clash with the Staffordshire-based outfit in fourth place in the division and eight points clear of fifth-place Chelsea, thus very much in the driving seat to secure Champions League football again next season. And Spurs strengthened their hand on Saturday as a Christian Eriksen brace sandwiched a Mame Biram Diouf equaliser to secure all three points for Pochettino’s side, which coupled with Chelsea’s 1-1 draw with West Ham moves the North London outfit ten points clear of the Blues with just six games to go.
Subsequently, there have been many delighted Tottenham fans in the Tavern in recent times, several of whom firmly believe that the race for a top four finish is over, and that their club will indeed secure a third successive season of Champions League football next time round.
In the meantime though, there has been much for our resident Spurs supporters to discuss, not least recent reports linking their team with a move for Manchester United forward Anthony Martial, who reportedly wants to leave Old Trafford this summer.
And while landing the 22-year-old is likely to be well received by Tottenham fans, it would be seriously bad news for £6.3 million-rated Spurs star Georges-Kevin N’Koudou (as per Transfermarkt).
Ultimately, the 23-year-old has found things difficult in North London since his move from Marseille back in the summer of 2016, to the point that he was shipped out on loan to fellow top-flight side Burnley back in January in a bid for regular first team football.
And that’s because the former France youth international only mustered eight Premier League appearances for Pochettino’s side last term of which none were starts, and with just one substitute cameo in the first half of this season, it was evident how low down he was in the pecking order.
He was then pushed even further away from the first team during the winter window following the arrival of Lucas Moura from Paris Saint-Germain, so landing Martial in the coming transfer market is only going to compound his misery even further.
What’s more, N’Koudou has hardly set the world alight during his temporary spell with Sean Dyche’s Burnley with no goals and no assists in six league appearances, further suggesting that he still has a long way to go to even get near Pochettino’s starting eleven.
And were Martial to join the likes of Eriksen, Moura, Erik Lamela, and Son Heung-min in the attacking ranks this summer, the Frenchman’s future prospects at Tottenham wouldn’t look good at all.
