The Tottenham fans in the Transfer Tavern were delighted to see their side conclude a fantastic week for the club with a narrow victory over Crystal Palace.
Tottenham Hotspur’s 1-0 victory over Palace at Wembley ensured that they went into the international break level on points with Manchester United in 2nd place, with a North-London derby to follow in just under 2 weeks time. Not only are the two North-London clubs in competition for a superior Premier League finish this season, but also for the signing of German central-midfielder Leon Goretzka according to The Mirror.
Goretzka is currently plying his trade in the Bundesliga with 4th placed Schalke. However, with the highly-regarded 22-year-old’s contract set to expire next summer, efforts to secure his signature are beginning to intensify across Europe.
Tottenham will most likely be in competition from the likes of Bayern Munich and Barcelona for Goretzka’s signature, but if they are successful in their pursuit of the German then Moussa Sissoko would become surplus to requirements.
Since signing from Newcastle in August 2016, Sissoko has failed to prove his worth at the club.
In the absence of Victor Wanyama, Moussa Dembele and Erik Lamela, Sissoko has been given plenty of opportunities to prove himself under Pochettino this season.
Thus far, he has fallen below the standard Pochettino has come to expect from his Tottenham players, and his technical ability appears inferior in comparison to the other midfield options within the club.
With the aforementioned German a hugely talented central midfielder, as well as a great athlete, he looks a natural fit for Mauricio Pochettino’s famed style of play.
Sissoko needs to demonstrate a dramatic upturn in form throughout the rest of the season, if he wishes to remain at the club following the potential arrival of Leon Goretzka.
