Tottenham Hotspur manager Jose Mourinho is planning on overhauling his defensive unit in the summer transfer window, is according to a report from the Daily Express.
It is suggested that the Portuguese will embark on a £120m spending spree as he looks to upgrade an ageing backline with younger, quicker players. The report names several players who the ex-Chelsea manager may target, with Benfica’s Ruben Dias and Nathan Ake of Bournemouth thought to be two centre-backs he is keen to bring to the club.
It is also thought that Mourinho would like to sign Norwich right-back Max Aarons and that the club will offer £15m for him. Youcef Atal and Ben Chilwell are believed to be on Tottenham’s radar, too.
Two of Spurs’ current centre-backs in Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen are now over the age of 30 and it seems that the latter will not be at the club next season as it stands, with his contract set to expire in the summer (Transfermarkt). Added to that, their defensive record has been poor this season and they have conceded 32 goals in just 25 league matches (BBC Sport), so it wouldn’t be a surprise to see Mourinho target defenders in the next transfer window.
Where should Jose Mourinho strengthen?
Loads of Spurs fans have been reacting to Mourinho’s reported transfer plan on Twitter, with several excited about some of the names linked with a move to north London. Here is what some had to say…

If we can sign one of the RBs and one of the CBs. That would be massive. Take Atal and Dias if I had to chose
