The Tottenham fans in the Transfer Tavern have been reacting to the latest update in the Toby Alderweireld saga. According to the Daily Mail, PSG are set to match the Belgian’s £10-million per year wage demands. The 29-year-old wants a five-year deal, which Spurs are unwilling to offer owing to his age.

Not one of the Spurs fans propping our bar up is doubting the ability of their Belgian defender. Everyone in N17 appreciates the incredible talents of the ex-Atletico Madrid man, since Alderweireld made the switch from Madrid to London, Tottenham have had the best defensive record in the league. The link between Spurs rise to domestic brilliance and Alderweireld’s arrival is no coincidence. Spurs have recorded their best two league finishes in the Premier League over the last two years, finishing 2nd and 3rd and have looked like one of the best teams in Europe.
Now though, Tottenham may have to branch out and start the search for a new star at the back. Earlier in the month, it was reported in The Mirror that the club was looking at German ace, Jonathan Tah as a direct Alderweireld replacement for when the 29-year-old eventually departs. The problems with Alderweireld have been mostly off the pitch after the defender went off injured against Real Madrid with an injury he’s failed to break back into the club’s first eleven amid contract issues and on Sunday he was left out of the squad completely in Tottenham’s historic win against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

If Toby’s gonna go then I rather it be a foreign club like PSG than a prem rival

What a waste for me of one of top CB in world it would be if he ended up in the French league. Unfortunately for us I think he's made his mind up to go .

If his wage demands are £180-200k then his transfer fee should be £60-70m

Levy will do a good deal here. Rose likely to go as well. Bring in the Fulham left wing back and a cb of suitable quality and the project continues. I will be sad to see Toby and Rose leave but I wish them well. We do not need any negativity in the squad. We move on

But will PSG pay the same transfer fee as VVD to Liverpool? Or higher?
