Tottenham target and Brazilian striker Leandro Damiao is heading to the Ukraine in what is believed to be a ‘£34m deal’.
Spurs made an approach in the summer for the Internacional hitman but saw a £15m bid rejected by the club. Club President Giovanni Luigi warned Spurs “he’ll only leave at the end of the year and for more money.”
Spurs have missed out on a great opportunity and were warned that they would have to bid much higher if they were to land the 22-year-old’s services. However club President Giovanni Luigi refused to give in and now he has a £34m offer on the table from Ukraine. Tottenham are not the only club to have shown interest in Damiao, he has been linked with a number of European clubs including Liverpool and Italian giants A.C. Milan. Asked why the Brazilian sharpshooter wouldn’t be joining the Rossoneri, Luigi replied: “Because I have an offer of €40m offer from a team in the Ukrainian league.”
Shakhtar Donetsk is the alleged club to have offered the £34m for Damiao but Luigi failed to comment at this moment in time. Shakhtar Donetsk is the most glamorous team playing in the Ukrainian Premier League and is filled with Brazilian talent, so it would be a surprise if it wasn’t Shakhtar that Damiao would be joining. Giovanni Luigi replied: “I cannot say. It is a delicate moment. I can only say he will not go to Milan for this reason.
“If Milan offered €40m we could talk about it, but there has been no contact. The only team that has shown real interest is from Ukraine.”
Damiao has been in sparkling form for Internacional, he has hit home 13 goals in 22 league games this season and 41 goals in 70 appearances for the club since 2010. He has also proved he can score against top-class opposition as he scored against both Barcelona and A.C. Milan in the Audi Cup.
