Manchester United fans in the Transfer Tavern have been badgering our landlord for the last few weeks, trying to get some gossip about who the Red Devils will sign in the summer.
It looks set to be a big transfer window for Jose Mourinho. Although he’s clearly got this United side on the right path, further recruits are needed in the summer if the Portuguese is to the lead the club to their first Premier League title of the post-Sir Alex Ferguson era.
And according to The Telegraph, Mourinho is already eyeing up one summer target in Tottenham Hotspur’s versatile youngster Eric Dier, who has featured as a full-back, a centre-half and a midfielder throughout his Lilywhites career.
The Telegraph claim the Old Trafford boss is desperate to sign the 17-cap England international and grant him consistent game-time in midfield – the position where Dier reportedly sees his long-term future.
The Red Devils are prepared to table a whopping £40million for Dier and believe Spurs’ potential swoop for Burnley centre-back Michael Keane, who is rated at £30million, could boost their chances of signing the 23-year-old this summer – presumably because it may impact Dier’s game time.
United fans in the Tavern rate Dier highly, but aren’t convinced he’s worth the £40million fee their club is reportedly prepared to pay.
