Ahead of tomorrow’s trip to Arsenal, the Tottenham Hotspur fans here in the Transfer Tavern are in surprisingly good spirits. Usually, prior to a north London derby, you’d find our local Lillywhites fretting, though not these days.
Under Mauricio Pochettino, Spurs have become one of the most exciting sides in Europe and the likes of Harry Kane and Dele Alli have seriously excited the punters propping up our bar. Indeed, as exciting as it is to watch two such talents impress, the vultures are reportedly circling.
According to the Daily Mail, Alli has his eyes on a move elsewhere. The England international is understood to fancy a move to Real Madrid at one stage in his career, much as Gareth Bale and Luka Modric had done before him. However, that’s not thought to be imminent or anything, with Daniel Levy believed to be in a position of power in regards to the 21-year-old.
Plans are thought to be underway in regards to a new deal for the former MK Dons youngster – who bagged twice against Los Blancos in the Champions League – and any move to take him from north London is said to have to exceed the £89m Manchester United paid for Paul Pogba in 2016.
While our resident Spurs fans know they can’t keep him forever, the fact they are in a position of strength over Alli is very good news indeed.
Keeping Alli away from Real Madrid forever seems a touch unrealistic. However, Tottenham are on an upward trajectory and are very well-placed when it comes to retaining him for at least another season or two.
