More bad news for Tottenham Hotspur after summer of transfer inactivity

The Tottenham Hotspur fans in the Transfer Tavern have been doing their very best to put on a brave face over the course of the summer window, despite the fact they’re yet to bring anyone in.

Having sold Kyle Walker, many of our local Lillywhites were desperately hoping to see some of the funds put back into the squad as Mauricio Pochettino looks to go one better this term and deliver a Premier League title.

While not all too many of our north London locals were shedding tears when Walker departed for Manchester City, perhaps they will be now. As reported by the Daily Mail, England international Kieran Trippier is set to miss the start of the Premier League campaign after picking up a knock against Juventus over the course of the weekend.

Trippier limped off at Wembley and, while Spurs are thought to have not been too concerned initially, they now reportedly fear the damage to his ankle is more serious than expected. With Walker now gone, that leaves no senior right-back available for their trip to St. James’ Park on Sunday to face Newcastle.

As you can imagine, this hasn’t gone down too well amongst our Tottenham-supporting punters.

Landlord’s Verdict:

This is terrible news for Tottenham. Having failed to strengthen over the course of the summer, Spurs are now significantly weaker for their trip up to Tyneside, serving as another frustration for supporters.

Eric Dier and even a certain Moussa Sissoko can deputise, though it’s far from ideal in what’s likely to be a raucous atmosphere in Newcastle on Sunday.
