Tottenham supporters have been in high spirits in recent times after seeing their side record a third successive victory in the Premier League at the weekend.

Mauricio Pochettino’s men went into their meeting with London rivals Chelsea just a point and a place behind the previously-unbeaten Blues, with the chance to leapfrog Maurizio Sarri’s side all the incentive needed at Wembley on Saturday. And so it proved as Spurs produced a wonderful display to swat aside Chelsea 3-1 at the national stadium, with goals from Dele Alli, Harry Kane, and Son Heung-min inspiring the North Londoners to a tenth win of the season, thus moving them up to third place in the division.

Thus, there have been many thrilled Tottenham fans up and down the country in recent times, several of whom have been heaping praise on the whole team for their efforts on Saturday - it was arguably Spurs’ best performance of the campaign so far.

Yet one man epitomised everything that was brilliant about Pochettino’s side on Saturday, namely midfielder Moussa Sissoko, who continues to resurrect his Tottenham career after another wonderful performance.

The France international struggled for much of his first few seasons in North London to call into question his future over the summer, only for manager Pochettino to keep faith with the 29-year-old - and how he has since repaid that faith.

The midfielder shone in his five preceding starts for Spurs to underline his rise from surplus to requirements to key first teamer, and he again produced the goods on Saturday to help Pochettino’s men to a famous victory.

Sissoko may have only touched the ball on 46 occasions at Wembley, but his 82% pass success rate was better than the vast majority of his Spurs teammates - only Son (83%) and Christian Eriksen (87%) were more successful of those that started for Pochettino’s side.

And with one of Sissoko’s 28 passes proving to be a key one in a bid to help Tottenham create opportunities in the final third of the field, the Frenchman certainly played his part on the ball in a dominant Spurs display - but it was off the ball in which he really came into his own.

The 29-year-old ex-Newcastle United man won both the aerial duels he contested over the course of the 90 minutes to help negate that particular threat from Sarri’s side, while he completed more tackles (four) than any other Spurs player to help thwart the Blues going forward - add in an interception, and Sissoko read the game brilliantly.

And with the Frenchman’s incredible work-rate again on show, the 29-year-old is slowly but surely becoming a vital member of this Tottenham team - who would have said that a matter of months ago?

So while Tottenham were absolutely brilliant at Wembley on Saturday, it was £16.2 million-rated Sissoko (as per Transfermarkt) who was their unsung hero - he epitomised everything that was great about Pochettino’s team.
