Tottenham supporters have been in high spirits in recent times after seeing their team record a ninth Premier League victory of the season on Saturday night.

Mauricio Pochettino’s men went into their encounter with London rivals Crystal Palace having narrowly beaten Wolves in their previous league game, alongside victory over PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League in midweek. And Spurs made it three wins in a week as a Juan Foyth effort midway through the second half was enough to seal a 1-0 success for the North London outfit, a result which kept them in fourth place in the Premier League table.

Thus, there have been many delighted Tottenham fans up and down the country in recent times, several of whom have been praising the exploits of defender Foyth, who bounced back from a tough night against Wolves with a much-improved display at Selhurst Park.

And in netting the winner, a lot of the focus has been on the Argentine, thus somewhat taking away from the stellar performance produced by Moussa Sissoko against Roy Hodgson’s Eagles.

The France international has been something of a divisive figure during his time at Tottenham, what with the midfielder too irregularly producing the goods to suggest that he simply cannot be relied upon by manager Pochettino.

However, the 29-year-old was very impressive in victory over West Ham in the Premier League a few weeks ago, and he produced another sterling display against Palace on Saturday to help Spurs to another narrow league win.

Sissoko had more touches of the ball than any other Tottenham midfielder on Saturday (83) to underline his involvement in the contest and willingness to get on the ball, while his excellent pass success rate of 91% was only bettered by defender Toby Alderweireld (96%) to suggest that he was efficient and effective with the ball at his feet.

And with two of those passes proving to be key passes in seeking to get Tottenham up the field and creating opportunities, the Frenchman certainly sought to affect things in the final third of the pitch, even if those key passes ultimately didn’t lead to a Spurs goal.

But it wasn’t just going forward and on the ball in which Sissoko excelled at Selhurst Park, as the 29-year-old succeeded with both of the tackles he attempted to thwart Palace’s advances through the midfield area, while his two clearances suggest that he was in the right place at the right time to relieve the pressure on the Tottenham backline.

Overall, Sissoko hasn’t enjoyed the best of times since his move to Spurs back in the summer of 2016, but much-improved displays in recent weeks suggests that he is getting to grips to life in North London - Saturday was another example of that.

So while Foyth will receive the plaudits for netting the winner on Saturday, £16.2 million-rated Sissoko (as per Transfermarkt) was Tottenham’s unsung hero in victory at Palace.
