While many of the Tottenham Hotspur fans in the Transfer Tavern are desperate to see the club splash some cash this summer, a few of them are warning against panic buys.
Indeed, a group of supporters propping up the bar are stressing the fact an awful lot of money has been wasted on poor signings in the last few years, particularly last summer.
Both Moussa Sissoko and Vincent Janssen were expensive arrivals and neither have worked out on Hotspur Way, which is why reports from the Daily Mirror have been met with a round of applause amongst our local Lillywhites.
They claim Ligue 1 outfit Marseille are keen on a move for Janssen, who scored just two Premier League goals last season, this summer as they plot an assault on the French title. Les Phocéens have already spent big money on Premier League talents in the shape of Dimitri Payet and Florian Thauvin, with the Dutchman said to be in their sights.
Sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta is understood to be ‘actively seeking’ a new marksman as part of their summer plans and the 23-year-old is believed to be one of a number of players Spurs would be willing to listen to offers for.
As you can imagine, following his dismal debut campaign, our local Spurs supporters aren’t overly concerned.
You can’t knock Janssen’s work rate, though if Tottenham could recoup most of the money they paid AZ Alkmaar for him, perhaps a deal should be done.
As long as that money is spent wisely, the Oranje star should be sold at the right price, having failed to convince in front of goal.
