Tottenham supporters in the Transfer Tavern are eagerly anticipating the summer transfer window, and thus what business their side may seek to conduct in a bid to sustain a Premier League title challenge next term.
Mauricio Pochettino’s men finished third in the English top-flight this season to secure a third successive campaign of Champions League football, although they ended up a mammoth 23 points behind champions Manchester City. And for the North Londoners to seek to bridge that gap next time round, they will simply have to make telling additions to the squad this summer.
Yet there could be one man on his way out of the club this summer, namely midfielder Moussa Sissoko, who has reportedly been offered to other sides as Pochettino seeks to offload the flop during the close season.
And getting rid of the £18 million-rated star (as per Transfermarkt) this summer would without doubt be in the best interests of all parties involved.
Ultimately, things just haven’t worked for the France international at the North London outfit, with the 28-year-old commanding 81 senior appearances for Spurs since his move from Newcastle United back in 2016, although only 38 have been starts.
And with very little impact when on the pitch, bagging just twice and laying on only nine assists, the Frenchman simply hasn’t had the desired effect since Tottenham splashed out £30 million on his services a few years ago.
And with the likes of Christian Eriksen, Dele Alli, and Son Heung-min performing well in the first team, and with Lucas Moura and Erik Lamela also showing their quality in the second half of the campaign, Sissoko isn’t a first-choice in the attacking ranks at Spurs.
Add in Mousa Dembele, Victor Wanyama, and Eric Dier in the middle of the park, and he’s not going to play very often in central midfield either.
Thus, the 28-year-old’s future prospects at Spurs look very bleak indeed, and with Pochettino’s side likely to strengthen over the summer in a bid to compete for major honours next season, he is only likely to fall even further down the pecking order.
As such, reports that they are seeking to offload the French outcast would without doubt be in the best interests of all parties involved.
