Our Tottenham fans here in the Transfer Tavern are still dreaming of winning the Premier League title this season as we head into the final few games of the campaign.
The Lilywhites have been absolutely superb this season and the general feeling is that if they hadn’t had European football this season, as Chelsea haven’t, they would be the prime candidates for the league crown.
Instead, though, they are hoping Chelsea slip up and many will be wondering just what the club will do in terms of signings in the summer to improve this already impressive squad.
Perhaps, though, there is room for one area to be worked on and it could be fixed by signing a familiar face – Michael Carrick.
Indeed, we all look at Spurs’ side and marvel at how young and brilliant it is but the one thing they seem to lack is proven title winners, rather naturally.
For sure, the men from White Hart Lane might not even desperately feel the need for a wise old head to come in given they seem such a close knit side but you can’t buy experience and better sides than this one haven’t won things purely for a lack of that specific factor.
Carrick, then, would come in, provide guidance to the club’s players when the going gets tough and, indeed, help them balance a Champions League campaign with league duties – the prime suspect behind this season’s falling short.
He wouldn’t be the headline-grabbing, last piece of the jigsaw type signing Spurs fans will be expecting, but he may just be the one to deliver what they want most.
