The Tottenham fans in the Transfer Tavern are in disbelief after crashing out of the Carabao Cup at the last-sixteen stage to London rivals West Ham yesterday evening.
Tottenham were in cruise control at the end of the first-half, as they strolled down the tunnel with a comfortable 2 goal cushion and a place in the quarter-finals seemingly secured. It appeared to be business as usual for Spurs when they found themselves in front after just 6 minutes at Wembley. An intricate flick from Fernando Llorente cutely set Son Heung-min free down the left-hand side, before he slotted the ball into the path of Moussa Sissoko to calmly dispatch a well-crafted Spurs opener. Dele Alli doubled Spurs advantage rather fortuitously after 37 minutes, when his effort was deflected in off Declan Rice after Son had teed him up inside the penalty area.
But an unexpected West Ham fightback saw the game turned completely on its head during the second half. The Tottenham faithful propping up the bar here simply could not believe their eyes as Angelo Ogbonna headed home the winning goal in the 70th minute.
With the standard of the Premier League title-contenders as strong as ever this year, the Caraboa cup even if not the most prestigious competition, represented the most realistically achievable route to silverware this season.
The club as a whole will be feeling frustrated this morning after failing to close out a 2 goal lead at home to a West Ham side in miserable form.
A tweet from Tottenham’s official Twitter page detailing their result has produced some very interesting comments from supporters…

Many fans have taken the opportunity to poke fun at Spurs failure to progress, whilst a handful of the Tottenham faithful are even beginning to question the future of Mauricio Pochettino as his quest for a trophy as at the club continues.
Here’s a few examples of what the fans had to say on Twitter…
We'll take that Premier League trophy at the end of the season 😉

Another trophy gone…. When will we learn the title is too far off we need these cups.. No passion or pride in that 2nd half.
