Tottenham need to find a suitable backup option to Harry Kane during the January transfer window.

Kane led the line for England against Croatia as the Three Lions were held to a goalless draw against the World Cup finalists. It marked the sixth England game in a row where the Spurs forward failed to get on the scoresheet. It has been suggested that the forward is still jaded after a long season with club and country.

Mauricio Pochettino will be keeping a close eye on his star forward but lacks a suitable backup option to give Kane a valuable rest. The Argentine has spent many years searching for another quality attacker, but players like Vincent Janssen and Fernando Llorente have failed to make an impact at the club. The January transfer window marks the perfect opportunity to finally sign a suitable alternative.

One man he should definitely attempt to sign is Genoa forward – Krzystof Piatek. Valued at £13.5m by Transfermarkt, the Pole signed for the Italian club this summer after racking up an impressive record in his homeland. Expectations were high, but no one could have predicted what came next.

Piatek has hit the ground running in the Serie A and leads the scoring charts in Europe’s top five leagues with nine goals already. The 23-year-old has gone from unknown to one of the most wanted forwards in the world following his goalscoring exploits. Genoa could now be set to land a huge profit if Piatek does secure a move in the January window.

His showings earned him a call-up to the Poland national team alongside Robert Lewandowski, and he headed home during the 3-2 defeat to Portugal. Similar to Kane’s rise at Tottenham, Piatek rise to the top has come out of nowhere. Putting them together in North London could be a potent combination.
