Pochettino blow as Spurs’ midfield deal cast into doubt

Tim Sherwood’s reign at Tottenham Hotspur is not often looked back upon fondly, with perhaps only the emergence of Nabil Bentaleb proving to be a bright spot.

Well, much like the reign of Sherwood, the Algerian’s career at White Hart Lane has derailed ever since the installation of more dynamic options across the club.

Despite only penning a new five-year deal with the club last season, the 21-year old’s future under Mauricio Pochettino looks to be dead in the water after he was left of the club’s pre-season tour of Australia.

The arrival of Victor Wanyama and continued excellence of Eric Dier in the holding role has further muddied waters, though the club’s attempts to rid of the midfielder could have been scuppered.

According to Portuguese outlet Recordthe player isn’t overly keen on a move to Benfica and would rather stay in the Premier League, where there is reportedly no shortage on interest.

London rivals Crystal Palace have been linked with a move as they continue their ambitious recruitment drive.

Would Spurs regret losing Bentaleb this summer? Let us know below…
