Speaking to Tottenham’s official website, Mauricio Pochettino gave the news all the Spurs fans here in the Transfer Tavern wanted to hear about Toby Alderweireld – his scan on his injury came back all clear.
The local Lilywhites fans drew a sharp intake of breath on Saturday afternoon when they saw their key centre-half go off during the game with West Brom, with what looked like a serious injury but the Argentine Pochettino has helped allay those fears with his comments.
The Belgian international took a knock to his knee in the game and whilst he missed the match against Bayer Leverkusen, his return date will now be much sooner than first thought.
Pochettino said: “It’s difficult for the weekend because it’s still painful for him but it’s important that the scan was all clear. We’ll now see. If he’s not involved this weekend, maybe for the next few games [he can be available].”
Should Alderweireld miss out on the weekend it means Spurs will face Bournemouth on the South Coast with the likely centre-half partnership of Eric Dier and Jan Vertonghen, the same as that that kept a clean sheet in Germany last night.
