Tottenham supporters have been in fine voice in the Transfer Tavern in the last few hours after seeing their side move into the top four of the Premier League courtesy of a 1-0 success over free-falling Crystal Palace on Sunday.
Mauricio Pochettino’s men went into their encounter with the Eagles fifth in the table but just a point behind defending champions Chelsea, who faced Manchester United later on Sunday. And Spurs piled the pressure on the Blues as Harry Kane’s late header sealed a vital three points for the North London outfit at Selhurst Park, with the pressure possibly telling on Antonio Conte’s side as they slipped to a 2-1 defeat at Old Trafford, despite taking the lead through in-form Willian.
Nonetheless, there have been many happy Tottenham fans in the Tavern in recent times, several of whom are hoping their side can take that momentum into their FA Cup fifth round replay against Rochdale at Wembley on Wednesday night.
In the meantime though, there has been much for our resident Spurs supporters to get their teeth into, not least recent reports suggesting that talks are underway with Sheffield United for the signing of highly-rated wonderkid David Brooks.
And given the Tottenham boss’ excellent track-record of developing young players into first team regulars, the Pochettino factor is likely to play a huge part in luring the Wales international to North London.
Ultimately, Brooks has enjoyed quite the rise in the last 12 months or so, earning his Championship debut for Sheffield United back in August last year before a few months later appearing for Wales in their 2-0 friendly defeat to France.
And with two goals and four assists for the Blades so far this term, he continues to go from strength to strength, and certainly looks set for a bright future in the game should he get the opportunities and thus the development needed to fulfil his potential.
And given Pochettino’s recent history of giving young players a chance, Tottenham appears to be the ideal destination for Brooks.
Clearly, much of the current Spurs first team is made up of young players who Pochettino has placed his faith in, be it striker Kane up front, Dele Alli just behind, or Eric Dier either in a central midfield position or part of a back three – they have all significantly improved under the Argentine.
And that’s because the Tottenham boss has given them a platform from which to perform, and has since backed them to produce their best – the aforementioned trio look set to play a key part in the future of their club, and indeed their country.
And this must be of interest to Brooks.
Pochettino, and everything that comes with the Argentine, arguably makes Spurs a hugely attractive proposition for some of the country’s brightest stars, and with Brooks clearly possessing huge amounts of potential, the man himself may see the Argentine as the best man for whom to work under in the coming years.
As such, Pochettino’s Tottenham are certainly the ideal club for the attacking wonderkid.
