Tottenham supporters have been in high spirits in the Transfer Tavern in the last few days after seeing their team reach the semi-finals of the FA Cup for the second consecutive season courtesy of a routine 3-0 win over Swansea City on Saturday.
Mauricio Pochettino’s men got past AFC Wimbledon, Newport County, and Rochdale to reach the last eight of the world’s oldest cup competition, although they were made to work hard by the latter two EFL sides, who forced replays against the North London club. Yet Spurs were near their best in South Wales on Saturday as a Christian Eriksen brace alongside Erik Lamela’s second of the season secured an easy victory over the Swans, thus earning Pochettino’s side a last four clash against Manchester United next month.
Consequently, there have been many thrilled Tottenham fans in the Tavern in recent times, and they are likely to be further encouraged by a recent report from The Daily Mail, which details a potentially big boost in their quest to land Crystal Palace’s Wilfried Zaha this summer.
The 25-year-old has once again proven his worth to the relegation-threatened club this season with four goals and three assists in 22 appearances for Roy Hodgson’s men, adding to the impressive seven goals and 11 assists he contributed in their incredible escape under Sam Allardyce last season.
As such, there has been much reported interest in the Ivory Coast international in the last few months, with recent reports suggesting that Pochettino’s Tottenham are set to step up their pursuit by readying a £40 million offer for the winger this summer, this all after having a £21 million bid rejected last summer.
And those recent reports also detail a potentially big boost for the North London outfit, as Zaha is reportedly ‘likely to leave’ Palace this summer regardless of whether they stay up or not, thus very much opening the door for Tottenham to step up their interest in the 25-year-old wing wizard.
Landlord’s verdict: Wilfried Zaha has been in fine form for Crystal Palace in the last 18 months or so, and as such a big move looks inevitable for the 25-year-old.
Tottenham reportedly tried their hand with offers last summer but to no avail, although recent reports suggest that they are readying a £40 million bid for the Ivory Coast international, scorer of four goals in 22 Premier League appearances this season.
More significantly though, the report details that Zaha is ‘likely to leave’ Selhurst Park this summer regardless of what league Roy Hodgson’s men are in, and this key development simply must entice Mauricio Pochettino and the Spurs hierarchy to intensify their interest in the wing wizard, especially with Chelsea also thought to hold an interest.
