The Tottenham Hotspur fans here in the Transfer Tavern believe that, while the club have strengthened well over the summer, are still a winger short.
Over the past few summers, Spurs have tried and failed to bring in a top class winger, something lacking in Mauricio Pochettino’s otherwise hugely impressive squad.
Jarringly for our local Lillywhites, Tottenham DO actually have one, in the shape of Erik Lamela.
However, the Argentina hasn’t played for the club in almost a year after going under the knife on a hip problem and club legend Ricky Villa recently hinted there are some doubts over whether he’ll play AGAIN.
So, scary as that was, reports from the London Evening Standard have at least settled down some nerves on that front.
They claim those behind the scenes at the club are confident the former Roma man will make a full recovery as he continues to work on his rehabilitation.
As you can imagine, the idea of having Lamela back in full flow has gone down rather well this evening.
Lamela would give Tottenham so much going forward. Spurs fans can only dream about how different last season’s title challenge would have looked if they had his searing pace to call upon during their multitude of draws.
Having him back could change the game.
