With Chris Wood having denied Tottenham Hotspur a first Premier League win at Wembley, it’s fair to say our local Lilywhites could do with some cheering up.
Indeed, life at the national home of football is proving really rather frustrating right now, so at least reports from the Daily Mail have gone down well today.
They claim Mauricio Pochettino is ready to give Tashan Oakley-Boothe a chance in the first-team this season. Considering the Argentine’s track record when developing young talents, this is seen as exciting news amongst our local Lillywhites.
The 17-year-old is thought to have impressed his boss so much over the course of pre-season that he reportedly pulled away from making a serious bid for Celta Vigo star Pape Cheikh Diop, who has now joined Lyon.
Able to operate out on the wing or in central midfield, the England U17 starlet could help Pochettino in wide areas, with the former Southampton coach having struggled to find a consistent answer in those berths.
The likes of Moussa Sissoko and Georges-Kévin Nkoudou have both failed to wholly convince, so the idea of seeing another exciting young Englishmen there has gone down well.
Why not? If Tottenham can’t bring anyone in before now and the end of the window, giving the youngsters a chance is the obvious alternative.
It’s proved to have worked for Pochettino so far, after all.
