Tottenham supporters in the Transfer Tavern are eagerly anticipating the summer transfer window, as their side eye the additions that can take them that one step further in their bid for major honours next time round.
Mauricio Pochettino’s men finished third in the Premier League this term to secure a third consecutive campaign of Champions League football, which itself is a fine achievement for a club that prior to Pochettino’s arrival were hovering outside of the top four. However, another season has passed without Spurs ending their trophy drought, which stands at over a decade and as such is longer than the barren spell endured by North London rivals Arsenal between 2005 and 2014.
As such, that is the next step Spurs will be looking to take next time round, and there’s little doubting that Crystal Palace ace Wilfried Zaha could help them in that pursuit.
But with Everton reportedly having expressed an interest in the £22.5 million-rated forward (as per Transfermarkt), these reports simply must trigger the North Londoners to make their move for the Ivory Coast international.
Ultimately, the 25-year-old has proven himself to be one of the best players outside of the Premier League’s top six in the last few years, bagging nine goals and laying on five assists this time round to help Roy Hodgson’s side avoid the drop.
And he was just as impressive last term as well in which he scored seven goals and laid on 11 assists to again inspire the Eagles to safety, further underlining his status as one of their most important and influential players.
Significantly though, the forward has developed the consistency in his game which wasn’t always there in the seasons prior to the most recent two, but he hasn’t lost that flair and creativity in striving for that consistency.
In fact, it’s arguable that, were Zaha to make the move to Spurs, he’d offer them something else in the attacking third of the pitch given his explosive pace and desire to take defenders on, the sort of thing they were lacking in some big matches this term.
And with Pochettino himself seeking big signings this summer to finally take the step up next time round, they simply won’t want to be beaten by Everton to Zaha’s signature, what with the Toffees finishing four places worse off than Spurs, and thus not in European competition.
As such, with Everton reportedly joining the race for the Ivorian, Tottenham simply must be prompted to get a deal done for the 25-year-old as soon as possible.
