Tottenham supporters have been pretty quiet in the Transfer Tavern this week after seeing their team suffer a second successive FA Cup semi-final defeat courtesy of a 2-1 loss to Manchester United on Saturday.
Mauricio Pochettino’s men reached the last four of the world’s oldest club competition last year as well but fell to Antonio Conte’s Chelsea at that stage, losing 4-2 at Wembley. Yet they threatened to reach the showpiece for the first time since 1991 when Dele Alli gave them an early lead last weekend, only for goals from Alexis Sanchez and Ander Herrera to seal a deserved victory for Jose Mourinho’s side, thus booking their place in the final next month.
As such, there have been many disappointed Tottenham supporters in the Tavern in the last few days, several of whom are turning their attentions towards a solid end to the Premier League season, starting with all three points against Watford on Monday night.
In the meantime though, there has been much for our resident Spurs fans to discuss, not least a recent report suggesting that Fenerbahce are seeking to re-sign Vincent Janssen on loan again for the 2018/19 season.
As such, this recent report may well suggest that fellow Tottenham forward Fernando Llorente could have a future at the North London club after all.
Ultimately, the 33-year-old has seriously struggled since making the move to Spurs from Swansea City last summer, with just 15 Premier League appearances and one goal to show for his endeavours.
And with just a handful of goals in other competitions as well, it clearly hasn’t worked for the Spain international at Tottenham, and as such he has been linked with a move away this summer as a result of his difficulties.
However, were Spurs to sanction Janssen’s departure to Fenerbahce for the 2018/19 season, they’d unlikely allow Llorente to leave as well, as doing so would leave Pochettino short upfront behind striker Harry Kane.
Yes, the England international is comfortably the best forward at the club, but it only takes an injury or a suspension for Spurs to be light in that particular department if Janssen were to leave once again.
As such, Llorente may well get the chance to save his Spurs career next season.
Clearly, the Spaniard has calibre in English football having scored 15 goals in just 33 Premier League games for Swansea last term, with his efforts for Spurs so far not at all reflective of the quality striker the 33-year-old is.
But a full pre-season, having not had one with Pochettino’s side last summer given how late the deal was completed, could well stand him in good stead for the 2018/19 campaign, and thus he could finally provide the adequate cover needed for talisman Kane.
As such, the recent Janssen report, which indicates that he could be on the move again in the summer, could well suggest that £7.2 million-rated Llorente (as per Transfermarkt) has a Tottenham future after all.
