Tottenham supporters have been in high spirits in the Transfer Tavern this week after seeing their side come from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 with European giants Juventus in the first leg of their Champions League last 16 clash in Turin on Tuesday.
Mauricio Pochettino’s men went into their meeting with the Serie A champions off the back of edging North London rivals Arsenal 1-0 at Wembley in their preceding encounter, a result which took their unbeaten streak in all competitions to 12 matches. Yet they didn’t make the best of starts at the Juventus Stadium on Tuesday as a Gonzalo Higuain double gave the hosts a 2-0 lead after just nine minutes, before goals from Harry Kane and Christian Eriksen deservedly secured a draw for Spurs, thus making them favourites for progression when the two teams meet at the national stadium in three weeks’ time.
Thus, there have been many thrilled Tottenham fans in the Tavern in recent times, and they are likely to be further intrigued by a recent report from SFR (via Sport Witness), which suggests that their team sent a scout to watch Nice versus Lokomotiv Moscow on Thursday night, with reported target Jean-Michael Seri a possible reason for the trip.
The 26-year-old made the move to Ligue 1 outfit Nice back in 2015 and has since proven his worth with 110 appearances for the club, in which time he has bagged 11 goals and laid on 22 assists from a central midfield position.
And the Ivory Coast international has been attracting attention from the Premier League in the last year or so, with Spurs reportedly interested in the 26-year-old last summer only for no deal to materialise.
Yet recent reports suggest that the North London outfit had a scout present to watch Nice’s Europa League clash with Lokomotiv Moscow on Thursday, with Seri plausibly the subject of the trip following interest over the summer.
And while Seri came out on the losing side, he was reportedly one of Nice’s better players on the night, which is sure to have intrigued and perhaps delighted the Spurs representative.
Landlord’s verdict: Jean-Michael Seri has been attracting attention from Premier League clubs for a while now, with Arsenal and Tottenham reportedly linked with the midfielder in the last 12 months.
And it appears that Spurs could well be reigniting their interest as reports suggest that they had a scout present to see Nice’s clash with Lokomotiv Moscow in the Europa League on Thursday night, with 26-year-old Seri the ‘obvious’ target.
And while his side got beat on the night, the Ivory Coast international was reportedly one of Nice’s ‘better players’, in news which is sure to please our resident Spurs fans, and indeed the Tottenham representative present at the game last night.
But whether Mauricio Pochettino is indeed convinced to firm up his interest in the summer remains to be seen.
