Though Spurs and Southampton are two of the most upwardly mobile sides in the Premier League, you’d have never of guessed it considering the contrast in emotions between the two sets of supporters drinking the Transfer Tavern dry.
That’s because the North London outfit have been handed a boost in their chase of Southampton midfielder Victor Wanyama, according to Football Insider.
A move to prize the Kenyan way from Southampton last season proved too hard to navigate as Mauricio Pochettino tried to reunite with the 24-year old.
However, the South Coast outfit stood strong and kept the former Celtic ace at St. Mary’s another season with hopes of securing him on a long-term deal.
Still, the imminent departure of Ronald Koeman to Everton is thought to have thrown a spanner in the works, with the bruising midfield set to look for another exit route.
As Spurs gear up for a venture back into the Champions League, they seemingly view the midfielder as cover and competition in equal measure to the likes of Eric Dier and Mousa Dembele.
While Saints clearly hope to keep a hold of the player, the fact he will soon enter the final 12 months of his deal at St. Mary’s Stadium could force their hand.
Is Wanyama too much of a liability to be relied upon in a finely balanced squad such as Spurs’?
