The Tottenham fans in the Transfer Tavern were thoroughly satisfied with their sides confidence-boosting victory over APOEL Nicosia last night…
Last night’s fixture at Wembley was one of those difficult fixtures to approach for Mauricio Pochettino. On the one hand, Tottenham had already qualified as group winners so in theory, they needed nothing from the match. However, strangely enough, it almost felt like a must-win fixture for the club because of their torrid run of form in recent weeks.
Much to the delight of the resident Lilywhites in the tavern, they strolled to a morale-boosting 3-0 victory to record their 5th victory of the group stage.
Pochettino used the match against Nicosia to hand some of the fringe players in his squad, such as Georges- Kevin N’Koudou and Juan Foyth, an opportunity to impress on the hallowed turf of Wembley Stadium.
But it was Tottenham’s summer signing Fernando Llorente who grabbed the headlines on his rare opportunity to impress from the outset.
With the game deadlocked at 0-0 after 20 minutes, the former Swansea City striker controlled the ball brilliantly inside the area before swivelling to poke the ball home and open his personal account for the club.
Prior to last night’s fixture, Llorente had not managed to score in his previous 16 appearances for the club, and his goal has clearly delighted the supporters on Twitter.
Here’s what the supporters had to say about Llorente’s first goal for the club…

Well played Fernando, great finish tonight and also good to see your combination play with Sonny throughout the evening, both worked together well.
