Some Tottenham fans are wrong: Dele Alli, not Lucas Moura, was the man of the match on Saturday

Tottenham supporters in the Transfer Tavern have been in high spirits in the last few days after seeing their side beat Fulham 3-1 at Wembley on Saturday to record a second Premier League victory from their opening two games.

Mauricio Pochettino’s men went into their clash with the newly-promoted Cottagers off the back of a narrow success over Newcastle United the weekend before, what with Spurs winning 2-1 at St James’ Park. And while Slavisa Jokanovic’s men gave Pochettino’s side something to think about by levelling in the second half through Aleksandar Mitrovic, goals from Kieran Trippier and Harry Kane to add to Lucas Moura’s opener sealed all three points for the North Londoners.

Thus, there have been many delighted Spurs fans up and down the country recently, several of whom have taken to Twitter to revel in the performance of Brazil international Moura, who notched his first league goal for the club on Saturday.

Yet some of those Tottenham fans are wrong to suggest that the 26-year-old was man-of-the-match on Saturday, as although Dele Alli didn’t get on the scoresheet for the hosts, his all-round play was excellent to suggest that he was the stand-out player for Pochettino’s side.

The 22-year-old wasn’t quite at his very best last season for Tottenham yet did net for England in their World Cup quarter-final victory over Sweden during the summer to suggest that better things could be in the offing for the attacker this season.

And by netting in their opening-day win at Newcastle, in which he also produced a fine performance, the Englishman backed that up with another excellent display on Saturday in being the beating heart of everything good Spurs did in the final third of the pitch.

Alli linked up brilliantly with messrs Moura and Kane to continuously give Jokanovic’s side problems in the final third, while he hit the target with all three efforts he attempted to underline the good positions he continued to get into, and thus the composure to turn that into goal-scoring opportunities.

Add in making some timely interceptions off the ball, and the 22-year-old was outstanding for Spurs on Saturday, and looks set to embark upon yet another fine season for Pochettino’s side this time round.

So while Tottenham fans are absolutely right to praise Moura’s efforts, not just in scoring but carrying a huge threat going forward throughout the 90 minutes, Alli’s exploits suggest that some were wrong to name the Brazilian man-of-the-match over the England star.

Tottenham fans… what do you think? Let us know!
