Tottenham Hotspur host Leicester City at Wembley Stadium this afternoon as they look to continue their outside bid of a Premier League title hunt.
Despite the injuries and lack of signings, Spurs still find themselves just two points off Manchester City and four points off Liverpool, who have a game in hand over both sides.
That is quite remarkable given the obstacles that Mauricio Pochettino has had to face this season. Spurs will be waiting in the shadows of both sides to pounce on their title pursuit if they do slip up and the only way they can keep themselves in that position is to continue winning.
Leicester City is the next challenge for them and to beat them, this pair must start…
Spurs had been lacking a real potent attacking threat due to Harry Kane and Son’s absences of late. However, since the latter has returned from the Asian Cup, he has scored in both League games he has played showing how important he is to the North London outfit.
Son’s movement, runs and ability in front of goal means he is vital to Spurs’ attacking approach to the game as he could look to get in behind Leicester’s centre-backs who are not the quickest off the mark.
Leicester can be devastating in attack with the likes of James Maddison, Harvey Barnes, Demarai Gray and Jamie Vardy all likely to cause Spurs problems if they feature.
Spurs will have to deal with this by using their most mobile centre-backs that can be fast off the mark and read the opposing forward’s next move. With Toby Alderweireld and possibly Jan Vertonghen expected to start, Sanchez will surely do so next to them so the defence can try and minimise the attacking threat that the Foxes pose.
If they can do so, they will be well on their way to getting a positive result.Like what the TT have on offer? Sign up for more notifications!
