The Tottenham Hotspur fans in the Transfer Tavern are ready for a big summer of activity, in the hope Mauricio Pochettino can add the final touches to what is hopefully another title tilt.
Still, while the notion of discussing exactly who may join the cause on Hotspur Way is exciting indeed, the players who leave north London over the course of the summer will have just as big a say in shaping the complexion of the squad.
With that in mind, it’s time to look at the Moussa Sissoko problem at
White Hart Lane Wembley.
Having recently suggested he could look to leave the club he joined only last summer for £30m, the Frenchman’s time at Tottenham looks like coming to an end. Despite his poor season, the Frenchman is likely to have offers from all around Europe and was recently linked with shock moves to the likes of Barcelona.
But how can Spurs can get the best deal? With the 27-year-old only ever likely to be a back-up at a European powerhouse, it’s unlikely Tottenham will be in line for anything near the fee they originally shelled out for him.
So Bleacher Report’s story mooting a possible move to the Chinese Super League should be taken very seriously by all of those connected with the club. The ridiculously wealthy teams over in the Far East have previous in paying large sums of money for Premier League outcasts, so selling him there would be smart business.
Whether or not the player himself would like to move to China is another thing entirely. Let’s not forget, the World Cup is only next summer and Sissoko will surely harbour aspirations of playing in it.
However, the sort of money on offer in the CSL would tempt anybody.
If Tottenham are to save face on one of the biggest transfer blunders in recent memory, China really could help them out.
