Spurs boost as Newcastle accept £30m midfielder deal

Amid the Transfer Tavern’s busiest day of the year, it is all we can do to stop various sets of supporters who’ve taken the day off work to watch Deadline Day unfold from dancing on the tables.

On the craziest day of the summer, it is odd to see two sets of punters actually celebrating the same deal.

That’s because, according to Sky Sports Transfer Centre (at 09:41), Newcastle United will sell midfielder Moussa Sissoko to Tottenham Hotspur.

The powerful French international has seemingly been desperate for a move away from Tyneside all summer, following the Toon’s relegation from the Premier League last season.

Despite impressing for Les Blues at the European Championships earlier this summer, the 27-year-old has barely covered himself in glory for the Magpies propping up the bar for a while now.

That’s exactly why they’ve reacted with delight to the report from Sky Sports, with the former Toulouse man nearing a move to White Hart Lane.

It is understood Spurs will pay five installments of £6m for the midfielder, representing a huge profit for Newcastle.

He arrived from Ligue 1 for little under £2m in January 2013 but doesn’t look like sticking around for their time in the English second-tier.

Our North London locals are slightly bemused at the idea of paying £30m for a player who performed so poorly during a relegation season, though are excited to see his pace and power in full flow.

Will Sissoko improve Spurs? A £30m player?! Let us know below…
