Tottenham Hotspur fans have cursed their luck in the Transfer Tavern this morning, after reports from the continent shattered their dreams of landing a big name in the summer window.
Spanish outlet Marca reports that Isco’s starring performances at the Santiago Bernabeu this season have persuaded Zinedine Zidane’s side to complete a u-turn in their view of the player, who they now see as indispensable.
The attacking midfielder has been a target for Tottenham Hotspur – though it seems a transfer is unlikely to materialise this summer now with this latest transfer update.
The 25-year-old has fought back from the fringes of the squad this season and is now set to sign a new contract with Los Blancos until 2022, with the reports stating his father has already agreed to the deal.
Isco will now become one of the highest earners in the Spanish capital, behind only Karim Benzema, Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale, Sergio Ramos, Toni Kroos and Luka Modric, which signals his importance to the side.
The Spaniard’s role is growing increasingly more crucial as veteran Croatian Modric enters the twilight years of his career, with Isco now pushing Real Madrid’s starring midfielders for more regular openings.
That brings a halt to Spurs’ long-term interest in Isco, although our landlord has stated he never really considered Mauricio Pochettino’s side as genuine contenders for the player’s signature.
