The Tottenham Hotspur fans propping up the bar in the Transfer Tavern are nervous ahead of Chelsea’s meeting with Middlesbrough this evening.
Having watched their beloved Spurs drop points against bitter rivals West Ham on Friday night, 0ur north London locals believe a positive result for the Blues would put an end to the title race, so it’s safe to say they need some cheering up.
Still, reports from the Sun over the course of the weekend haven’t quite done that. They claim those on Hotspur Way need to step up attempts to sign Hull City defender Harry Maguire, who has proved impressive for the Tigers despite their battle against relegation.
While Mauricio Pochettino is said to be keen on the former Sheffield United ace in order to introduce further cover in central defence, Championship title winners Newcastle United are also thought to be interested.
Tottenham’s reported task is to convince the 24-year-old he can fight for his place at White Hart Lane, where the defence is currently strong and settled.
With Spurs likely to be involved in the Premier League hunt again next season, as well as competing in the Champions League, the punters propping up the bar hope he can indeed be convinced.
