The Spurs fans down by the bar have been joking about seeing a blue moon before their club next makes a signing.
Tottenham have had one of the most uneventful summer’s in their history as it appears Mauricio Pochettino is more interested in maintaining his group of players than adding to them.
For many months now, Ross Barkley has been linked with a move to Spurs.
Barkley very much fits the profile of players at Tottenham: Young, English, with improving to do under Pochettino – the England international hasn’t quite hit the heights that were expected of him since emerging into the Everton team in 2010.
Last term represented another inconsistent campaign, but the midfielder did come away with a respectable five goals and eight assists for the season.
Ronald Koeman recently revealed Barkley will leave the Toffees this summer and Tottenham should waste no time in signing the 23 year-old, who is also a target of Chelsea.
With just one year to run on his current deal, Barkley could be available for a cut-price. “We made a good offer of a contract. He declined.” said Koeman (via BBC Sport).
“Ross told me at the end of the season he wanted another challenge.”
After finishing second in the Premier League Pochettino’s side are preparing for a challenge of their own – going one step further and winning the title.
The Argentine who is making a habit out of getting the best out of English players could be the catalyst to finally ignite Barkley’s career.
