“Sign ‘im up!” yelled one Tottenham supporter at the Transfer Tavern as another showed him reports claiming the north London club are confident of ‘stealing a march‘ on their rivals to sign one of English football’s most exciting young talents.
The exciting young talent in question is Fulham’s Ryan Sessegnon who, despite not turning 17 until practically the end of the season in May, has already made 18 competitive appearances for the Craven Cottage outfit – including a 60-minute run-out as Slavisa Jokanovic’s side lost 3-0 to the Lilywhites in yesterday’s FA Cup action.
The teenage wing-back has been likened to former Spurs star Gareth Bale, now of Real Madrid, and tipped for a huge future, having already collected a multitude of caps for England across the junior levels and made nine starts in the Championship.
A number of clubs are said to be interested in the youngster; Arsenal, Chelsea Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United and Bayern Munich are all keen according to The Daily Mail, whilst Blues boss Antonio Conte even watched Sessegnon in action against Spurs on Sunday.
But The Mail claim Spurs are ‘confident they can steal a march’ on rival suitors in pursuit of Sessegnon’s signature – although not much detail is given as to how – much to the delight of our Tottenham drinkers here at the Transfer Tavern.
