Spurs reportedly think they have advantage over Chelsea in race for Barkley

Everton fans are in a right state here in the Transfer Tavern with the past week having been a difficult one for them given the Romelu Lukaku saga, and things are not getting an easier with the Mirror claiming Ross Barkley is being courted by a confident Spurs.

In case you’ve been living under a rock for the past few days, Lukaku has reportedly told the Toffees that he has no desire to sign a new contract at Goodison Park, which is the biggest hint yet that he will leave this summer.

This would be a massive blow given that he’s netted 19 of Everton’s Premier League goals alone this season, and now reports hint that he may be followed by another of the Merseysiders’ most talented players: Barkley.

The Mirror claim that Spurs and Chelsea are both keen on the midfielder, who will enter the final year of his contract at the end of 2016/17, but the Lilywhites are confident of winning the race.

Although the Blues may be a more illustrious team given their title exploits in recent years, Tottenham believe that an increased chance of first-team football under Mauricio Pochettino at White Hart Lane could sway the 23-year-old.

Chelsea are reportedly willing to pay £100m for Lukaku and Barkley, so the playmaker won’t be a cheap purchase for Spurs if they do indeed make a move.
