Spurs sensationally pull plug on stunning South American deal, Arsenal target up for grabs

No story yet has quite been so indicative of the proverbial silly season punters in the Transfer Tavern are about to enter ahead of the looming summer transfer market.

Just months away from what promises to be one of the most lavish summers of Premier League spending the baying public have ever seen, reports yesterday suggested Tottenham Hotspur were on course to land Argentine forward Jonathan Calleri.

The Sao Paolo star has also been linked with arch rivals Arsenal after excelling for the Brazilian giants, as well as Boca Juniors in the past 18 months or so.

While a verbal agreement between the 22-year old and the White Hart Lane outfit was thought to have been agreed, the Daily Mail now claims Mauricio Pochettino is ready to scrap it.

Instead, the former Southampton coach will reportedly focus on long-standing targets such as Saido Berahino and Michy Batshuayi in an effort to improve his frontline over the course of the summer.

Who will finish higher next season, Arsenal or Tottenham?
