Stamford Bridge nightmare should warn Tottenham off Premier League transfer swoop

The Tottenham fans in the Transfer Tavern are getting fired up for a huge North-London derby at the Emirates this Saturday.

Mauricio Pochettino takes his side to Arsenal this Saturday lunchtime searching for Tottenham’s first victory at the ground since 2010. Considering both sides recent form you would have to say that Spurs are marginal favourites to claim all 3 points, however, form usually counts for nothing within a derby atmosphere. With every passing game, Pochettino will be learning something new about the capabilities of his current squad, and narrowing his area of focus for improvement in the January transfer window.

According to reports in The MirrorTottenham are already lining up a move for Watford’s Brazillian starlet Richarlison, just 3 months into his career in English football. Watford brought the relatively unknown 20-year-old to England from Fluminense in the summer for a fee of just £11.2 million and his early performances suggest his purchase will prove to be an excellent piece of business from the Hornets.

Despite his impressive beginning to life in England, Tottenham should urge on the side of caution before trying to prize him away from their Premier League rival.

The 20-year-old has shown no fear in the early beginnings of his new challenge at Watford, but he is still learning his trade in England and he needs to be given time to develop before taking the step up to a bigger club.

Although he has scored 4 goals and provided 3 assists for his teammates in the Premier League, he has shown that his composure can be lacking with some high-profile misses this season – most notably in Watford’s 4-2 defeat at Stamford Bridge in October.

His progress would benefit from staying with Watford at least until the end of the season, but ideally until the end of the 2018/19 season.

By then he will have had ample time to settle into the Premier League and given the onlooking Spurs scouts a clearer idea on where the Brazillian could potentially slot into the club’s system.
