Though the summer window dragged on for oh so long at times for the Tottenham Hotspur fans in the Transfer Tavern, though deadline day was rather exciting.
Indeed, the arrivals of Serge Aurier and Fernando Llorente went down a storm amongst our north London locals last night, who now believe Mauricio Pochettino has a seriously strong squad.
So, reports from the Daily Mail have actually proven rather frustrating.
They claim Barcelona midfielder Andre Gomes WAS keen on a loan move to Spurs as the club explored the option of bringing the Euro 2016 winner to the club last night.
However, the Blaugrana are believed to have blocked the former Valencia man’s move away from the Camp Nou after they failed to land Philippe Coutinho from Liverpool.
Though the Portuguese has struggled with Barcelona, he’s clearly a huge talent, so the fact Tottenham missed out on a player open to joining has annoyed our local Lillywhites.
Under Pochettino’s guidance, he really could have been an asset.
It’s a shame for Spurs, who really could have done with a player like Gomes. The idea of him providing a sense of guile alongside the likes of Mousa Dembele and Victor Wanyama would give Tottenham a whole new dimension.
So, the fact it was blocked at the last minute represents a missed opportunity to seriously strengthen.
