‘Swap for Martial’ – Tottenham fans on Twitter increasingly on board with transfer rumour

The Tottenham Hotspur fans in the Transfer Tavern have been discussing the future of their 27-year-old left-back, Danny Rose, after a story in The Guardian has linked him with a move to Manchester United. The full-back, who was one of Spurs’ best players between 2015 and 2017, has fallen out of contention after missing ten months with injury and criticising the club’s transfer policy.

The 2017/18 season has seen Ben Davies nail down the left-back role in the Tottenham squad. The Welshman has been impressive throughout the campaign and it’s hard to think of any moments where he’s let his team down via an individual mistake. The only reason the ex-Swansea man has had his run in the side is down to Danny Rose. The marauding defender had been one of the best left-sided defenders in the world up until his injury and his criticism of the club.

Whilst sidelined, Rose made his frustrations clear as he claimed he didn’t want the club to keep signing players that “you have to google” and said that he would definitely play up north before the end of his career. That career could be a whole lot shorter after the knee injury that he suffered last year. A major part of Rose’s game was his scintillating pace down the left and after his knee injury, he seems to have lost his explosiveness down the flank. Either way, with United ramping up their interest it could be just a matter of time before Rose swaps Wembley for Old Trafford, in a move that many Spurs fans can all see coming.

Taking that into account, here’s what some of our local Lilywhites have made of the rumours:
