The Spurs fans in the Transfer Tavern have been reacting to a story from Marca, that claims Spanish striker, Fernando Llorente could be on his way back to Athletic Bilbao, the club that Llorente came through at and spent nine seasons with between 2004 and 2013. The target-man failed to make N17 his home in his season with Spurs, and can only look back on his FA Cup hat-trick against Rochdale as a high point.

Llorente has struggled to adapt to life in the capital after scoring 15 Premier League goals with Swansea last year, keeping the Welsh side in the top division and securing him his move to North London. Although the striker hasn’t done enough in his time at Spurs, making 30 appearances but failing to manage 1000 minutes for the club. The Spaniard has only bagged five goals in his time under Mauricio Pochettino and he could now be on his way to former club, Bilbao in summer.
Llorente will go down as the club’s latest failed striker, following in the footsteps of Roberto Soldado and Vincent Janssen as Pochettino continues his hunt for a successful backup striker to the devastating Harry Kane. A story in The Independent that has claimed Spurs are eyeing up a number of other targets, with West Brom’s Jay Rodriguez being tipped to replace Llorente in the summer. The club will be able to bring in Jay Rod on the cheap as he looks destined to suffer relegation with West Brom, and having previously worked with Pochettino at Southampton, he could be the perfect fit.

knew it was a bad signing from the start, he doesn’t fit our system whatsoever. felt like we signed him just so Chelsea couldn’t get him.

not much point staying at Spurs to be fair, although having most of the year off could help elongate the career!

Sorry Fernando but as dreamy as you are it just hasn’t worked. That isn’t your fault either btw, we just don’t seem to have a clue how to play with a targetman.
