Talks scheduled as report hints at Levy’s ‘fair price’ over Tottenham deal

Though much has been made about the lack of activity coming out of Tottenham Hotspur this summer, the punters propping up the bar in the Transfer Tavern have been impressed.

Indeed, while Spurs lost to Chelsea over the course of the weekend, there were certainly reasons to be cheerful for Mauricio Pochettino and his side, despite the fact they’ve not undergone a major squad overhaul.

Still, there’s nothing quite like a nice transfer rumour!

According to the Daily Telegraph, the north London outfit are poised to make a £20m offer for Everton star, Ross Barkley. The 23-year-old has been strongly linked with a move to the club after snubbing a new deal on Merseyside, though was recently ruled out for around three months.

However, despite his injury, talks between the two clubs are expected to take place this week and Daniel Levy is reportedly ready to pay £20m for the England international.

He’s not believed to have wanted to pay more than that, though an initial outlay of £20m plus £8m in add-ons is apparently seen as a ‘fair price’ on Hotspur Way.

The Toffees are understood to have wanted £50m for him at the start of the summer, though his contract situation was never likely to see that sort of fee commanded and his recent hamstring injury now looks like dropping his price even further.

Chelsea are also thought to be keen on the midfielder, who’d be a popular addition amongst our Tottenham-mad punters.

Landlord’s Verdict:

Considering Mauricio Pochettino’s track record when working with young English talent, Tottenham landing Barkley for £20m would be truly excellent business.

Though he’s struggled for consistency over the years, that isn’t a huge fee amid the craziest transfer market in years, for a player of huge potential.

Could be the signing of the summer.
