The majority of Spurs fans in the Transfer Tavern seem content with the potential sale of Kevin Wimmer, but surely it would be best to keep him?
Reports have been suggesting for the past few days now that Tottenham defender Kevin Wimmer could be set to join Tony Pulis’, West Brom.
The Austrian has failed to make any real impact within the Spurs first team since his arrival in London two years ago and many think the reported £15 million is a fantastic deal for his current employers.
On top of that, Spurs recently confirmed the signing of Davinson Sanchez from Ajax to bolster the centre-back position at the club.
Despite all of this, our landlord thinks it would be a mistake to sell the 24-year-old right now.
It is an age-old argument made against Mauricio Pochettino’s side but they have no depth in their squad.
Bringing in Sanchez adds a fantastic player to their team, but he still doesn’t add a lot of depth.
Selling a competent player who can be used elsewhere other than the Premier League and Champions League just doesn’t make sense.
£15 million for Wimmer is a great deal but Pochettino wouldn’t be leaving himself much time to use that money to benefit his squad before the transfer window shuts.
Considering Sanchez is his first signing of this window, the Argentine manager will likely go from one extreme to the other and adding another centre-back to his shortlist won’t make life any easier for him.
Keep the Austrian and use him to bolster the squad out for the remainder of the season or act quickly and find a replacement.
