At the start of this season a lot of the talk was about how we were going to have this titanic struggle between the top six clubs for the Premier League title.
It appears, though, to be anything but with Chelsea tearing up the TV companies’ dream script and threatening to waltz away with the crown.
Looking at the league table at the moment the Blues are well ahead, of course, and the two best placed to challenge, right now, are Arsenal and Spurs.
Arsenal are always there or thereabouts whilst Tottenham have come into the fray over the last few years and look the real deal now.
Last season wasn’t a one-off – as it’s proven for Leicester – and the Lilywhites are now title contenders each season but they need to make one signing in the coming days to avoid a repeat of last year.
What Spurs need now, and it’s not a new idea, is a striker.
Of course, it’s something Mauricio Pochettino tried to rectify with signing Vincent Janssen but that has not worked and so we are very much still in the same place as last year with Spurs.
We saw earlier this season what can happen without Harry Kane as their form plummeted and if that happens again – with a nine point gap already existing between them and Chelsea – it’ll be curtains again for them this season.
This may actually their best chance to win the league, too, for a while because both Manchester clubs will surely be stronger next season and you’d fancy Liverpool to sort their squad out too.
Spurs aren’t ones for spending big but this time they really should – before things get away from them yet again.
