The Pochettino factor: Tottenham is surely the perfect destination for £4.5m-rated sensation

Tottenham supporters in the Transfer Tavern have been using the last few days to look back at their side’s relatively successful campaign thus far, and indeed look ahead to what could still be in store for their team between now and the end of the season.

Mauricio Pochettino’s men are in a healthy position to secure a third successive top four finish in the Premier League with just a handful of games remaining, although the 2017/18 season will pass without any silverware. Spurs were beaten by Juventus in the last 16 of the Champions League back in March and lost 2-1 to Manchester United in the semi-finals of the FA Cup last month, which means that their decade-long wait for a trophy will go on into the 2018/19 campaign.

Subsequently, there have been many satisfied Tottenham supporters in the Tavern over the course of the campaign, many of whom are again happy with their Premier League campaign, but would have loved to have ended their barren wait for some silverware.

In the meantime though, there has been much for our resident Spurs fans to get their teeth into, not least recent reports suggesting that Bournemouth have joined the race for Celtic left back Kieran Tierney.

Pochettino’s Tottenham are also thought to be interested in the £4.5 million-rated sensation (as per Transfermarkt), and as such must make a move for the 20-year-old as North London would be the perfect destination for him to pursue his career.

Ultimately, the Scotland international has come on leaps and bounds in the last few years at Parkhead, with Tierney already having accumulated 127 senior appearances for the Bhoys, helping them to back-to-back Scottish Premiership titles.

And he has been praised widely over the last few years for his efforts down the left flank in Brendan Rodgers’ side, be it defensive discipline or bombing forward in a bid to get involved in attacks, as evidenced by his tally of six assists for the club this season.

And with the future of Danny Rose far from certain heading into the summer, and some of our resident Spurs fans still unconvinced by Ben Davies’ capabilities on the big stage, Tierney could well become the next long-term left back at Tottenham.

Arguably, he would have the best mentor possible in helping fulfil his undoubted potential, what with Spurs chief Pochettino having a proven track-record in developing young British players to become key first team players.

Dele Alli, Eric Dier, and Harry Kane have all developed hugely under the Argentine and are now regulars for both their club and indeed England, and that Pochettino factor must be of interest to Celtic’s Tierney.

Yes, first team opportunities are perhaps more likely at Bournemouth in the short-term, but he is plenty good enough to turn out for Tottenham every week, and at the tender age of 20, he could go on and become the top-quality left back his potential says he can be under Pochettino’s guidance.

As such, while Bournemouth’s interest may be of interest to Tierney, he should forget about them as Spurs is the perfect destination from which to pursue his career.
