Andre Villas-Boas’ side travel to Slovenia as they still wait for their first win in the Europa League. Maribor are currently one point ahead of Tottenham in Group J following their win against Panathanaikos on the first day of the European campaign.
Whilst Tottenham still face an injury problem with Kabou and Assou-Ekotto remaining out, the squad has been boosted by the possible return of Kyle Naughton.
However, Adebayor won’t feature after complaining of back injury following the Chelsea game, as well as Gareth Bale and Mousa Dembele remaining home with Brad Friedel but are all thought to be available for Sunday’s game against Southampton.
Lloris will remain in goal with Vertonghen and Caulker also thought to keep their place in the squad. Naughton could be introduced for Gallas on the left with Walker staying on the right too. Sandro should partner Huddlestone in midfield with Sigurdsson, Dempsey and Lennon playing behind the in-form Jermain Defoe.
But, with Andros Townsend impressing so far when called upon by Villas-Boas, he could be a surprise feature in the squad if AVB decides to rest a high-profiled player.
Following Tottenham’s disappointing start so far in the Europa League, Tottenham will have all guns blazing as they look to comfortably win against the Slovenian side and forget the previous under-whelming performances.
Their hopes are boosted with the defender Jovan Vidovic being suspended for Maribor due to a red card in a previous fixture against Lazio, along with fellow defender Nejc Potokar who is injured. Maribor’s stiker Rajko Rep is also out due to injury which should be a comfort for Villas-Boas’ side after their leaky defence has seen them concede over 80% of their goals in the second half.
