The Tottenham XI Pochettino should have built

Tottenham currently find themselves in a promising position to secure a place in the Champions League for next season, despite dropping points over the past month or so.

Spurs found themselves in the race for the Premier League title not so long ago, but defeats against Wolves and Manchester United have ruined their hopes.

Injuries have taken their toll on Mauricio Pochettino’s side recently, but if they weren’t an issue and Spurs had gone all out up until this point in the January transfer window then supporters would be looking at a much stronger side.

With that in mind, this is the Tottenham XI Pochettino should have built…

Hugo Lloris has had a couple of worrying moments in the current campaign, but he is one of the world’s best goalkeepers on his day, so there was no need to look at strengthening in that particular area.

The Lilywhites have been defensively sound up until this point in their campaign, with only a couple of leaky performances to note. Indeed, the likes of Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen have built a formidable partnership at the heart of the defence, while Kieran Trippier and Ben Davies have had a positive impact in the final third and in defensive areas.

Pochettino has made a mistake by not securing the services of Morgan Sanson, who was reportedly (as per Le10Sport, via HITC) the subject of interest from Tottenham Hotspur. And, it doesn’t look as if anything will develop as there has been no mention of the midfielder in recent times.

Sanson has the ability to carve open the opposition with defence splitting passes, and he managed to score nine goals last season, so they would have secured themselves a replacement for Mousa Dembele and another player who can influence the game in the final third.

Heung-min Son and Harry Kane have formed a deadly partnership at the pinnacle of the attack. And, Christian Eriksen’s future continues to be surrounded with doubt, but a replacement won’t necessarily be required this month as it appears as if the earliest he could leave is at the end of the season.
