Our landlord’s spent the day sewing back together the sides of Tottenham punters here in the Transfer Tavern, amid reports claiming Mauricio Pochettino is interested in signing Arsenal’s Calum Chambers.
The England international worked under Mauricio Pochettino at Southampton, impressing enough to earn a big-money move to the Emirates Stadium in summer 2014.
The young defender initially showed promise with the Gunners but has suffered a drastic fall from grace since then and has spent the season out on loan at Middlesbrough, helping them record the healthiest goals conceded record outside of the Premier League’s top seven.
Beyond the summer, Chambers’ future remains unclear. The solitary Boro drinker in the Tavern wants his club to sign the 22-year-old permanently, but that may not be possible if they drop out of the top flight, whilst he’s unlikely to start at Arsenal next season ahead of centre-back duo Laurent Koscielny and Shkodran Mustafi.
The Daily Mail have claimed Pochettino is monitoring the situation, suggesting he could look to link up with the young defender once again, but Spurs fans in the Tavern and online just aren’t buying it. Here’s a look at some of the best responses on Twitter…
