Tottenham supporters in the Transfer Tavern are relishing their side’s FA Cup semi-final encounter with Manchester United at Wembley on Saturday, with Spurs eyeing their first final in the competition since last winning the trophy in 1991.
Mauricio Pochettino’s men breezed past AFC Wimbledon in the third round back in January but were made to work for succeeding victories over Newport County and Rochdale, with both EFL sides deservedly earning Wembley replays. Yet Spurs produced their most accomplished display of the competition last time out in dispatching of Swansea City 3-0, thus earning them a spot in the semi-finals against Jose Mourinho’s United this weekend.
Subsequently, there are many optimistic Tottenham fans in the Tavern at present, several of whom are confident that their team can indeed get the job done on Saturday, and thus move to within 90 minutes of their first trophy since winning the League Cup back in 2008.
In the meantime though, there has been much for our resident Spurs supporters to get their teeth into, not least recent reports suggesting that their club are interested in a move for Paris Saint-Germain left back Layvin Kurzawa.
Chelsea and Manchester United are also thought to be keen on the 25-year-old, but the £19.8 million-rated ace (as per Transfermarkt) should instead opt for Tottenham over other possible suitors this summer.
Ultimately, there appears to be some uncertainty surrounding the future of left back Danny Rose heading into the summer, as there has been pretty much ever since he did an interview with The Sun last summer in which he was critical of Tottenham’s transfer policy, and very much hinted at a future move.
And with the England international struggling for form anyway this season following injury, Pochettino would likely be interested in bolstering his options at left back regardless of whether Rose leaves the club or not.
And with United touted as a possible destination for the Englishman, Kurzawa is unlikely to get regular football at Old Trafford, especially if Rose returns to the levels he produced 18 months ago.
And with Chelsea’s Marcos Alonso earning a spot in the PFA Team of the Year, as well as playing a huge part in their title-winning campaign last season, it’s difficult to see the PSG ace commanding regular football at Stamford Bridge either.
However, it could certainly happen at Tottenham.
Yes, Ben Davies deserves a lot of credit for his efforts for the North London club this season, but many of our resident Spurs fans are unsure over his capabilities on the big stage, which is ultimately where Tottenham want to be in the coming years.
And someone like Kurzawa, winner of two Ligue 1 titles and various other domestic cups, as well as goals in European competition in recent times, could be that necessary upgrade to help take Pochettino’s side to the next level.
As such, the 25-year-old should, for the better of his career, opt for Spurs over Chelsea and United this summer.
